See the attached screen capture of the blocks used by the software to add attributes to dumb footprints. Ok, so now what about the attribute text size? Since the attributes are added via the "merge in" technique you could change the size of the attribute(s) in the merge in blocks. For fuse footprint blocks, I add a RATING1 attribute, so the fuse rating is displayed on my panel footprints. MFG, CAT, ASSYCODE, etc.) is pushed into the footprint block as extended entity data (xdata).

That happens to be the center of pilot lights, so I edited my pilot light footprint blocks and permanently added the P_TAG1 at my preferred location, so the software will not need to merge in a block with the P_TAG1 attribute placed at the base point.ĭata that is transferring over from the schematic that is not normally visible on the panel layout footprints (i.e. It will insert this block with the P_TAG1 attribute at the base point of the footprint block. If it notices no attributes in the footprint block, it will "merge in" a block from the root of the Libs/Panel folder that includes a P_TAG1 attribute, so the tag can be visible.

For example, when you insert a footprint from the Schematic List, the software accesses the Footprint_Lookup database and finds out which footprint to insert. You could open the files up and add attributes if you wish, so you can control their location. But other than terminal block footprints the rest are pretty much just dumb graphics. Autodesk does add attributes to the terminal block footprints, so they play nice with Terminal Strip Editor. For example pilot lights may have a color attribute but nothing else. Most of the footprint blocks included with the software come from their respective manufacturers and usually include minimal, if any, attributes. Should I be using something other than the Modify Symbol Library tool to get what is needed here? Any advice you can offer is greatly appreciated. That's all I wanted to modify - text height and width factor. We also like to have our width factor at one for everything. I have to scale my footprints upon insertion to accommodate. Because if you (of all the posters on this forum) have never needed to do this, it makes me think I'm overlooking something. Even though I only need to modify folders whose blocks have text, I'm looking at a real headache. I only worked on the first two - AB and ABB. I waited until today to actually try using the Modify Library tool, hoping that someone would have an easy out for me. You mentioned that attributes and xdata get 'pushed in' when the blocks are inserted, but these text elements are actually in the dwg's themselves.

This mostly applies to the blocks for terminals, but I have run into it with circuit breakers and pilot lights also. As I noted in my post, I just need to modify the text sizes.
